Major (MAJ) Ryan T. Caligiuri was assigned to the University of Richmond Spider Battalion in August 2020 as an Assistant Professor of Military Science. Here he serves as an instructor for the program’s ROTC Cadets and the Executive Officer for the Professor of Military Science.  The program oversees the development of cadets from six universities in the central Virginia region and focuses on developing innovative future leaders.

MAJ Caligiuri is a native of Tecumseh, Michigan and still considers the Midwest home. MAJ Caligiuri attended Bowling Green State University where he earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Education and subsequently commissioned into the US Army Reserves as a signal officer. 

After completing the Basic Officer Leader Course, MAJ Caligiuri was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 338th Regiment headquartered in Blacklick, OH. He was later mobilized to Camp Atterbury, IN on two separate occasions in support of overseas contingency operations with his tenure spanning over four years. During his time mobilized with the unit, he was assigned in various positions and duties including; Battalion Adjutant (S1), Battalion Signal Officer (S6), Army Combatives Instructor, and Assistant Team Chief. 

Concluding after his mobilizations to Camp Atterbury, MAJ Caligiuri pursued his civilian career in education. MAJ Caligiuri spent four years as a Business and Information Technology at Pike High School in Indianapolis. During his time at Pike, MAJ Caligiuri played a significant role in the Youth Career Connect (YCC) program that was created by the Department of Labor (DOL) aiming to improve the college and career readiness of young adults. Pike was awarded one of the largest grants in the country of seven million dollars and a significant amount of that funding was routed into MAJ Caligiuri classroom and students. While at Pike, he also served as an assistant varsity wrestling coach and head junior varsity coach. 

While teaching, MAJ Caligiuri returned to a role as a traditional drilling reservist and was assigned to the 85th Support Command as a member of the G6 staff. He later returned to 3rd Battalion, 338th Regiment to serve as the Headquarters and Headquarter Company (HHC) Commander from 2014-2016.  MAJ Caligiuri left command after he was selected for a full time position in the Active Guard Reserve (AGR) program. 

MAJ Caligiuri then transitioned into the AGR program and become the assistant Battalion Operations Officer (S3) for the 319th Expeditionary Signal Battalion (ESB) headquartered in Sacramento, CA. MAJ Caligiuri’s previous experiences and success then lead him to Juana Diaz, PR where he served as the Battalion S3 for the 35th ESB and ensured the unit was ready to support Defense Support of Civil Authorities (DSCA) operations throughout continuing earthquakes and the ongoing threat of hurricanes. 

MAJ Caligiuri holds a Masters of Education from Bowling Green State University. He is currently completing the Army Command and General Staff College (Intermediate Level Education) through distance learning. He is married to the former Jamie Fox, of Toledo, OH and together they have three boys and three dogs.
