Senior Military Science Instructor, Spider Battalion

Master Sergeant Jamie A. Christian was assigned to the University of Richmond Spider Battalion in October 2020 as Senior Military Science Instructor. 

Master Sergeant Christian is a native of Oneida, Tennessee. He enlisted in the United States Army in January 2002. He has held every position as a Cavalry Scout from Driver, Gunner, Team leader, Section Leader, Drill Sergeant, Platoon Sergeant, OPFOR, Observer Coach Trainer (OC/T), S-3 Operations NCOIC, and First Sergeant. 

Master Sergeant Christian’s most recent duty assignments include Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 3rd Squadron, 89th Cavalry Regiment, D Company, 2nd Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, Task Force 4 (Recon), JRTC OPSGRP and D Troop (Geronimo), 1st Battalion (ABN), 509th Infantry Regiment, all while stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana; A Troop and Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 1st Squadron, 38th Cavalry Regiment, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; H Troop, 1st Battalion, 81st Armor and L Troop, 5th Squadron, 15th Cavalry Regiment, Fort Knox, Kentucky. His combat tours of duty include two tours in Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) I and 05-06, one tour in Operations Enduring Freedom (OEF) 10-11 in Afghanistan, and one tour in Operation Inherent Resolve in Iraqi (OIR) 17-18. 

Master Sergeant Christian’s Military and civilian education includes the Basic Leaders Course, Advanced Leaders Course, Senior Leaders Course, Master Leaders Course, Cavalry Leaders Course, Equal Opportunity Leaders Course, Battle Staff, Combative Level 1 and 2, Army Reconnaissance Course, Combat Life Savers Course, Air Assault Course, Basic Instructors Course, Drill Sergeant School, Basic Airborne Course, and Army Parachute Rigger Course. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science from AMU with Honors. 

Master Sergeant Christian’s personal awards and badges include the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (5), Army Accommodation Medal (5), Joint Service Achievement medal, Army Achievement Medal (3), Meritorious Unit Commendation (2), Army Superior Unit Award, Combat Action Badge, Drill Sergeant Badge, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Rigger Badge, and Wheeled Driver’s Badge. His foreign awards include German Parachutist Badge (2), Peruvian Parachutist Badge, Silver German Sportsman Badge, and Danish Contingent DANCON March Medal (2). In addition, he is an honorary member of the Order of Saint George and was awarded the Bronze Medallion, and received his silver spurs from the 16th Cavalry Regiment while assigned to Fort Knox, Kentucky.  

Master Sergeant Christian is married to Mary Christian and they have three children: Daniel Christian 23, Jamie Summer Christian 20 and Gideon Christian 13.
