CPT Erik M. Keirstead received his commission as an Infantry Officer in 2009 from the Virginia Military Institute.

His assignments include: Platoon Leader, Executive Officer, and Battalion Assistant S-3 for 1st Battalion, 509th Infantry Regiment (Airborne) at the Joint Readiness Training Center, Fort Polk, LA. Contracting Officer Representative (COR) for Area Support Group, Kuwait at Camp Buehring, Kuwait. Mechanized Infantry OC/T Team Chief and Assistant Battalion S-3 for 5th Armor Brigade, 1st Battalion, 360th Infantry Regiment, Fort Bliss, TX. Battalion S-3 and Assistant S-3 for HHC, 1st Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team (ABCT), Fort Bliss, TX. Operations Advisor to military forces of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and their allies. CPT Keirstead assumed Command of Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment, 2nd ABCT on 28 February 2018. CPT Keirstead is currently assigned to the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA as the Assistant Professor of Military Science.

His military awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (3OLC), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Superior Unit Award (1OLC), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary (2) and Service Medals, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Expert Infantryman Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, and Air Assault Badge.

CPT Keirstead’s military education includes the Infantry Officers Basic Course, Airborne School, Jumpmaster School, Air Assault School, Maneuver Captains Career Course, and First Army OC/T Academy. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in History with a concentration in Military History from the Virginia Military Institute and is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Homeland Security from the American Military University.
