    Captain Cory Isaiah Thomas was born in Orange County, Florida, and raised in Newport News and Gloucester County, Virginia. In 2017, while pursuing his undergraduate studies at Old Dominion University (ODU), he enlisted in the Virginia Army National Guard as a Forward Observer with the 1st Battalion, 111th Field Artillery Regiment.

    In 2019, CPT Thomas earned a Bachelor of Science in Cyber Security from ODU and commissioned into the U.S. Army Transportation Corps through the university’s Army ROTC program. He began his career as a Platoon Leader with the 1710th Transportation Company.

    In 2021, he was assigned to the 1030th Transportation Battalion, where he played a critical role supporting Task Force Cavalier during Virginia’s COVID-19 response operations. Responsible for coordinating logistics in the far southwest region of the state, CPT Thomas was instrumental in supporting public health initiatives. For his exceptional service, he received the Army Commendation Medal, a Virginia State Award, and a Certificate of Appreciation from the Virginia Department of Health, recognizing his contributions to the Cumberland Plateau, Lenowisco, and Mount Rogers Health Districts. During this assignment, he also completed a Master of Science in Cyber Security from ODU and Homeland Security (Graduate Certificate).

    Following this assignment, CPT Thomas served at the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) at Fort Eustis, Virginia, as an Action Officer in the G-33 Mobilization Department. He also led the Victory’s Edge outreach initiative, organizing more than 65 educational events and base tours for high school students. His efforts culminated in a large-scale college fair at Fort Eustis, where 13 scholarships were awarded, totaling $903,978.

    Upon graduating from the Logistics Captains Career Course at Fort Gregg-Adams, Virginia, CPT Thomas was assigned to the 94th Training Division, where he served as the Aide-de-Camp to a Brigadier General. He currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Military Science at the University of Richmond.
