Richard Hobson

    Sergeant First Class Richard Hobson is from St. Louis, Missouri. In 2006, Hobson joined the U.S. Army as an infantryman and attended One Station Unit Training at Fort Moore (formally Fort Benning), Georgia. Upon completing Basic Training, he attended Airborne School at Fort Moore and received permanent change of station (PCS) orders for his first duty station, Fort Myer, Virginia. While assigned to the 3rd Infantry Regiment, The Old Guard, at Fort Myer, Hobson was assigned to Honor Guard Company as a casket bearer in Arlington Nation Cemetery. His duty positions include rifleman, team leader, and squad leader. He has conducted over 300 funerals at Arlington National Cemetery. Hobson also played key roles in the presidential inauguration of President Obama.

    After his time in The Old Guard, Hobson moved to the 4th Brigade, 25th Infantry Division in Anchorage, Alaska, where he deployed to Afghanistan to support Operation Enduring Freedom. His duty positions include squad leader, section leader, and platoon sergeant. While in Alaska, Hobson attended joint training operations in Australia and Bangladesh. Then, he was assigned to Fort Sill, Oklahoma, as a drill sergeant for three years. After his time on the trail, Hobson moved to Fort Campbell, Kentucky, to complete his platoon sergeant time. 

    Hobson joined the ROTC program in January 2022, starting at Virginia State University as a military science instructor. In January 2023, he assumed his current role as a military science instructor at Hampden-Sydney College and Longwood University.
