Capt. Matthew Chizek

    Captain Matthew Chizek is a native of Virginia Beach, VA, and graduated from Old Dominion University, majoring in English and secondary education. In 2014, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant through Officer Candidate School (OCS) into the Corps of Engineers. 

    After attending EBOLC at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, Chizek was assigned to the 127th Brigade Engineer Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, in which he was a reconnaissance officer, light equipment platoon leader, and assistant brigade engineer.  

    In 2018, Chizek attended the Maneuver Captains Career Course at Fort Moore, Georgia. He was next assigned to the 307th Brigade Engineer Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, where he was an assistant operations officer and company commander.  

    Chizek assumed his role as an assistant professor of military science at Virginia Commonwealth University in August 2022 and is a military science instructor at the University of Richmond.
