    Major Ian Ramsey is from Tennessee and Florida and earned a B.S. in accounting and finance from Florida State University in 2009. He was commissioned through OCS and joined the U.S. Army Field Artillery Branch in May 2012. 

    After attending the Basic Officer Leader Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Ramsey was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment, then 1st Battalion, 7th Field Artillery Regiment at Fort Riley, Kansas, as a fire support officer, fire direction officer, platoon leader, and battery executive officer. His tenure includes tours supporting CJTF-HOA in Djibouti and Operation Spartan Shield in Kuwait. 

    Following reassignment, Ramsey attended the Field Artillery Captain’s Career Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, then continued to Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia, supporting the 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade. He served as the assistant BDE fire support officer for the 4th Battalion, 3rd Assault Helicopter Battalion fire support officer and commanded Headquarters Support Company 603d Aviation Support Battalion.  While there, he had tours supporting Operation Resolute Support/Inherent Resolve in Afghanistan and Atlantic Resolve in Germany. 

    In Sep 2020, Ramsey assumed his current role as assistant professor of military science at Virginia Commonwealth University. He serves as an instructor for the program’s ROTC Cadets, overseeing the development of their character and leadership abilities.
