CPT Ian E. Ramsey
Assistant Professor of Military Science, Virginia Commonwealth University & VA Union University

CPT Ian Ramsey is originally from Tennessee and Florida, ultimately graduating from Winter Park High School in Winter Park, FL. He attended Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL and graduated with Bachelor degrees in Accounting and Finance in 2009. In 2012 he commissioned through OCS and joined the US Army Field Artillery Branch in May, 2012. 

After attending the Basic Officer Leader Course at Ft Sill, OK, CPT Ramsey was assigned to 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment, then 1st Battalion, 7th Field Artillery Regiment at Fort Riley, KS as a Fire Support Officer, Fire Direction Officer, Platoon Leader, and Battery Executive Officer. His tenure includes tours supporting CJTF-HOA in Djibouti, and Operation Spartan Shield in Kuwait. 

Following reassignment, CPT Ramsey attended the Field Artillery Captain’s Career Course at Ft Sill, OK then continued on to Hunter Army Airfield, GA supporting the 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade. He served as the Assistant BDE Fire Support Officer, the 4th Battalion, 3rd Assault Helicopter Battalion Fire Support Officer, and took command of Headquarters Support Company 603d Aviation Support Battalion.  There he had tours supporting Operation Resolute Support/Inherent Resolve in Afghanistan and Atlantic Resolve in Germany. 

CPT Ramsey assumed his current position as an Assistant Professor of Military Science at Virginia Commonwealth University in Sep 2020. Here he serves as an instructor for the program’s ROTC Cadets, overseeing development of their character and leadership abilities.
