Post-grad Opportunities
Students who choose to become cadets in the University of Richmond’s ROTC program make a commitment to serve their country in the U.S. Army for a period of time following graduation. In return, they receive an education second to none. For most students who participate in the Military Science and Leadership program, making a commitment to military service after Richmond isn’t a chore or obligation but a privilege. In 2007, 23 out of 24 cadets received their first-choice branch assignment; in other words, they received a billet that was in line with their ambitions and career goals. And students who request educational delays to attend graduate or professional schools almost always receive them.
Senior cadets can also choose to delay their entry into active service, following graduation, by competing for the Educational Delay Program. Seniors can choose to pursue graduate studies in the medical school (physical therapy, medical school, dental school, veterinarian school or law school).
Cadets participate in the ROTC program because they are interested in careers in the military, not simply fulfilling a four-year commitment. But those who do decide to reenter the civilian workforce after serving their country find that employers are eager to hire Richmond ROTC graduates. As job applicants, these men and women boast a record of academic performance at a highly selective liberal arts university along with the training, discipline and work experience that only the U.S. Military can provide.
